Teaching Philosophy
"Education is a social process; education is growth; education is not a preparation for life but is life itself." ~John Dewey
Successful teaching should provide students with skills and motivation to both question their environment and develop ideas that will someday shape their environment. I feel that effective teachers, including professors, are life-long learners who curiously explore new content, pedagogy, and knowledge of how their students think and learn. I also value a student-centered, goal-oriented approach to education where students develop knowledge and skills they can retain long after the course (e.g., written and verbal communication, problem-solving and critical thinking, and making connections) as well as more specific objectives within these broader aims. These aims of learning and teaching are central to my experience teaching in multiple disciplines to a myriad of learners.
